Famed media expert Michael Levine says the Democratic Party’s long-standing support for Israel has reached a turning point, and a July House vote put the division on public display.

On July 15, 103 House Democrats voted for an amendment that would have eliminated $3.3 billion in U.S. security assistance to Israel. “For years, support for Israel was a point of bipartisan agreement,” Levine said. “Now more than half of House Democrats who took a position voted to cut its security aid. That is no longer a fringe argument. It is a roll call.”


A week earlier, Rahm Emanuel, a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate, delivered a sharp critique of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government at Tel Aviv University and warned that Israel risked its relationship with Washington unless it changed course. reuters.com


Levine said Democrats have every right to question a government’s decisions, but voters deserve clarity about whether the party still supports military assistance to Israel.


“Criticism of Netanyahu is one thing,” Levine said. “Voting to remove billions in security assistance is another. Americans who care about Israel should ask every candidate where they stand.”


Netanyahu visited Washington for the July funeral of Sen. Lindsey Graham and met with President Trump during that trip, a reminder that the U.S.–Israel relationship remains central to American foreign policy even as Democrats debate its future.
